Haaland Extends Manchester City Stay Until 2034

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034.

The prolific Norwegian joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and has been a goal-scoring sensation ever since, netting 111 goals in 126 appearances. His previous contract, which reportedly included a release clause, was set to expire in 2027.

The new deal ensures Haaland could remain with Manchester City until his 34th birthday, providing stability for both the player and the club over the next nine-and-a-half years. Notably, the length of this contract is the longest in Premier League history, surpassing the nine-year deal signed by Cole Palmer with Chelsea last August.

“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club,” said Haaland. “Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”

Haaland expressed gratitude to manager Pep Guardiola, his coaching staff, his teammates, and everyone at the club for their support during his time in Manchester.

City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, highlighted the significance of the deal: “The fact he [Haaland] is signed for so long demonstrates our commitment to him as a player and his love for the club.”

Haaland’s Stunning Goal-Scoring Achievements

Haaland’s record at Manchester City is nothing short of remarkable. In the Premier League, he averages a goal every 91 minutes, and his Champions League scoring rate is equally impressive, with a goal every 92 minutes. In the FA Cup, he is even more prolific, averaging a goal every 71 minutes.

His standout first season at City in 2022-23 saw him score an incredible 52 goals across all competitions, with a goal every 79 minutes and a shot conversion rate of 28.7%. Last season, he found the net 38 times at a rate of one goal every 98 minutes. This season, he has scored 22 goals, averaging a goal every 118 minutes.

Haaland also boasts the best overall minutes-per-goal ratio in Premier League history for players who have played more than 5,000 minutes, with a goal every 91 minutes. His nearest rival is former City striker Sergio Aguero, who averaged a goal every 108 minutes.

Currently, Haaland ranks third on Manchester City’s all-time Premier League scorers list with 79 goals, trailing only Aguero (184) and Raheem Sterling (91). On the league’s all-time scorers’ list, he stands at 61st.

Opta data suggests that if Haaland maintains his current scoring ratio of 0.9 goals per game, he could break Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record of 260 goals in just 287 games. Haaland has played 87 games to date and would need to feature in 200 consecutive league matches to reach the milestone by the 2029-30 season.

City’s Recent Developments and Challenges

Haaland’s contract renewal follows Pep Guardiola’s decision to extend his own stay with the club by signing a two-year deal. Since joining Manchester City, the Norwegian forward has been instrumental in helping the club secure two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Champions League, and the Super Cup.

This season, Haaland has scored 21 times in 28 matches, continuing his impressive form. Despite his contributions, City currently trail league leaders Liverpool by 12 points, having played an additional game.

Haaland’s contract extension comes as Manchester City faces ongoing disciplinary proceedings with the Premier League. The club, accused of 115 rule breaches, denies all charges but could face severe sanctions if found guilty.

With Haaland now committed to a long future at Manchester City, the club has solidified its foundation for continued success both domestically and in Europe.
